Party like it's 1979.

Odd, but almost two years ago to the day I logged in here and deleted the few entries that were there. What is it about the weekend after Independence Day that nudges me to log in here?

This weekend, back in seventh grade, I had my one and only slumber party, July 7th to 8th. It was a good party in that we were up talking until the sun came up. That's how you knew it was a success, if you were up all night. People only fell asleep if your party was boring. I recorded some of it on a Panasonic tape recorder, on a yellow cassette that, like all of the notes we passed in class, somehow disappeared over the years. Yet I can remember what we talked about and what made it into the recording: Which girls liked which boys, which boys liked which girls, clogs, how much we hoped we'd get Mrs. K and not Sister J for eighth grade, and a few ghost stories.

The cassette was part of a rainbow-colored set, red, yellow, orange, green, and blue. I had recorded some disco songs on the red one and some hard rock on the blue one. I did it the old-fashioned way: By holding the tape recorder next to the stereo or radio when my favorite songs came on. My mother ruined more than one recording by calling up the stairs for me to "LOWER THAT."

None of this has anything to do with why I decided to log in and write a post. I just wanted to say that today the cutest dog put his cold nose on the back of my shin in the elevator. A beagle-lab mix. Not sure how that happened, given the difference in size between the two breeds, but that dog was adorable.
